Liverpool’s Lord Mayor Marks Smaller Earth’s Move to Employees Owned Trust
Smaller Earth were honoured to be joined by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, who spoke at the announcement of Smaller Earth becoming an ‘Employee Owned Trust’.
In a landmark moment for the business, Smaller Earth has officially transitioned to an Employee Owned Trust (EOT) after 25 years as a limited business. This pivotal move aligns with the organisation’s dedication to cultural exchange and secures its legacy, ensuring the company's future is driven by the passion of those who live and breathe the mission of Smaller Earth.
The momentous occasion was marked by a special event at Smaller Earth’s headquarters in Liverpool, where employees gathered to celebrate this milestone. The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Richard Kemp CBE, and Lady Mayoress Erica Kemp CBE, honoured the occasion, delivering engaging and celebratrory addresses to the staff. In the Lord Mayor's speech, he emphasised the value of cultural exchange in today’s world, its impact on local communities, and acknowledging the hard work that has made Smaller Earth a global leader in this field.
“The work you do here is essential, not only to the community of Liverpool but to the thousands of young people across the globe who are enriched by cultural exchange.” said Lord Mayor Kemp CBE. He went on to praise Smaller Earth’s dedication to fostering international understanding and personal growth, noting that the shift to employee ownership reflects a commitment to values that are crucial to the organisation’s mission.
This transition aims to maintain the high standards and innovative spirit that have become synonymous with Smaller Earth, while also empowering employees to shape the direction of the organization. By fostering a culture of collective ownership, the EOT structure ensures that those most invested in the organization’s success—the employees themselves—will continue to steer its course for generations to come.
Smaller Earth CEO, Iza Gyuricza, remarked on the decision: “Our staff are the heart of Smaller Earth and the reason we've come this far. Every success we've had comes down to their passion and dedication for our vision. Moving to employee ownership is our way of honoring that, and I couldn't be more excited to see what we'll accomplish together in this new chapter.”
